The Silver Coast Sirens, who play in Óbidos, were in desperate need of new, safer goalposts and transformed their usual end-of-season gathering to a games afternoon at a local bar which happened to be featuring heavily in the British TV Show A New Life in the Sun.

Blessed with a glorious warm afternoon, the team set up various games, including some with a distinct netball influence, in the garden of the Prohibition Bar in Óbidos. Continuing the theme was one of the star raffle prizes, a coaching session with the England Roses Netball Team Captain Fran Williams. The New Life in the Sun film crew had been following the journey of the Prohibition Bar and were back for an update on the day of the Sirens fundraiser.

Sirens Social and Fundraising Officer Lesley Stansbury says “with a bit of hard work, we not only had a great end of season send off, but showed our local community our great team spirit, as well as raising much needed funds to refresh our kit for the new season. We really hope that we make it to the final cut of the tv show too to show the world how netball can bring people together in a really fun way”.
