The desire to install the video monitoring system had already been announced at the end of last week by the president, Fermelinda Carvalho (PSDB).
In an interview with journalists, the mayor explained at the time that the cameras will be installed in Jardim da Corredoura, Praça da República and Rua do Comércio, areas with “the most movement” in Portalegre.
“I think it’s important [to implement the video surveillance system], people have to feel safe in their city,” she said.
Fermelinda Carvalho, who did not indicate a specific value for carrying out this project, only said that it is, “initially”, “a large investment” for the municipality’s coffers.
The signing of the protocol with the Portalegre PSP does not yet have a set date.
After the protocol, the municipality hopes to move forward with the project together with other entities such as the Ministry of Internal Administration, to obtain the respective licenses to implement the system.
