The total cost of the Fonte da Caravela intervention was around €79,000.
Among the works carried out were: the replacement of all existing piping and accessories in both the source tanks and the engine room, which were in a high state of degradation, with new stainless steel equipment; repair and replacement of all electric pumps that were broken; opening all existing lighting spots for cleaning and replacement with more efficient LED lamps, with replacement and repair of all broken supports; repair of valves and nozzles of all existing fountains with replacement of those that were missing; renovation and cleaning of the joints of all fountains, as well as the masts that make up the “sails” effect; installation of a new water treatment system, including PH and chlorine controller with calibrator; painting and arrangement of all electrical supports, as well as all existing plumbing in the engine room.
Also known as “Fonte da Barca”, this luminous fountain is decorated with water motifs in the shape of the sails of the old vessels used on the voyages of Discoveries, the caravels, representing the role played by the city of Lagos in that period, as well as its historical, social and economic connection with the sea.
