Sales of fast-moving consumer goods in Portugal grew 6.4%, year-on-year, in the period between November 4th and December 1st. According to data provided by Nielsen, manufacturer brands were up 6.9% and private label products were up 5.8%, “indicating a shift” where the former “are now growing at a higher rate.”
In the home hygiene chapter, growth was 5.8%, driven by manufacturer brands. On the other hand, data from NielsenIQ Scantrends regarding purchases of personal hygiene items show an increase of 8.1% in the same period, compared to the previous year.
The analysis of consumption in this four-week period, which ended at the beginning of December, shows that food grew by 6.6%, with manufacturer brands surpassing private label, growing 6.7% compared to 6.4% .
The beverage category also grew during this period, around 4.7%. “This indicates a more pronounced growth compared to the previous period, with manufacturer brands and private labels growing at practically the same pace”, says Nielsen. Thus, manufacturer brands slightly outperformed private label drinks, with growth of 4.7% compared to 4.6%.
