In a statement, the PSP's Lisbon Metropolitan Command (Cometlis) informed that the source of the cut will be works to requalify the security systems of the Grilo Tunnel, located at IC17/CRIL (Circular Regional Interior de Lisboa), in Greater Lisbon.
This conditioning will be monitored by the PSP Lisbon Traffic Division.
In July last year, Infraestruturas de Portugal (IP) announced traffic restrictions for nine months for rehabilitation and modernisation works on the Grilo Tunnel, budgeted at 14 million euros.
The intervention includes improving the drainage system, laying a new floor and replacing the lighting, ventilation and fire fighting network systems.
Systems for detecting dangerous materials, speed control (radars), counting and classifying vehicles and video monitoring will also be placed in the tunnel.
The Grilo Tunnel was opened in 1998 and is located on the Olival Basto/Sacavém section of the IC17/CRIL, currently having an average daily traffic of more than 115 thousand vehicles.
