About 20 farmers will have better access to agricultural holdings spanning 128 hectares thanks to the renovations being made to the Manga rural road in Pico, Azores, which is situated inside the Madalena agrarian planning perimeter. The works, which is the result of a partnership between the Pico Forestry Services and the Regional Institute for Agrarian Planning (IROA), consisted of paving the road with bituminous concrete.

António Ventura, the regional secretary for Agriculture and Food, who oversaw the inauguration stated that the goal of this initiative, which had an investment of 129,400 euros according to a note released by the Azorean executive, is to increase accessibility, hence facilitating farmers’ access to their farms. As he explained, “Improving infrastructure in rural areas contributes to improving the quality of work carried out by farmers and, likewise, to the efficiency of the transport of agricultural products”.

Furthermore, the government official stated that a significant public investment in electrification, water supplies, and roads is scheduled for 2025. The projected investments in forestry, rural and agricultural roads total 12.8 million euros.
