Based on 2024 data from Yescapa, the number of trips is expected to continue to grow, reflecting the trend of an increase in shorter getaways throughout the year, but with greater frequency.
During peak seasons, getaways are expected to occur mainly during school holidays, long weekends, Easter and summer, with an average duration of 6 days per trip, a trend observed in 2024 and expected to continue in 2025.
According to the company, the motorhome traveller profile is expected to remain in the 45 to 65 age range, followed by the 35 to 44 age range, according to data from 2024. These numbers reflect the growing interest of different generations in motorhome tourism, an attractive option for both more experienced travellers as well as young adults looking for group or couple adventures.
Local travels
When it comes to travel destinations, most Portuguese people book motorhomes to explore Portugal, followed by Spain and Italy, which have been gaining popularity - a trend that is expected to continue into 2025.
Motorhomes are usually rented more frequently in large cities such as Lisbon, Porto and Faro, but there has been an increase in demand for vehicles in inland areas as it makes it easier to manage rentals between owners and Portuguese travellers who can find a vehicle to rent.
"Based on the trends observed in 2024, it is clear that motorhomes in Portugal are evolving to meet the demands of a diverse and increasingly demanding audience. The flexibility and freedom offered by this type of tourism will continue to appeal to both the younger generations and the older generations”, says Maria Liquito, Country Manager of Portugal at Yescapa.
The severe economic crisis in Europe will encourage people to go camping. Tourism will decrease sharply.

Popularity will increase due to people not being able to afford a house. Just like in the USA.

Well I’m a little disappointed with the lack of reaction to this horrendous situation.;)
Imagine James’ having to look out of 10fl window to see a family in a campervan going to the beach and spending money!
Or even worse those poor poor ladies and gentlemen on the Algrave that can bearly stear their golf carts though the sea of toilet paper and excrement being thrown into the wind by a visiting family.. with an on board toilet..and paying a considerable amount for the privilege..
My hart goes out to you;)

Motorhomes are like an infestation.
They come and park in front of our homes and other unauthorised parking places.
They defecate behind bushes.Leave rubbish everywhere and a
Make Portugal look life a refugee camp.
They should be banned.
