In 2006, LIPOR and its Associated Municipalities embraced and supported yet another challenge: encouraging people to deliver plastic caps for recycling - the project "Operation Tampinhas" (Bottle Caps Project).

“For us, social and environmental causes have a collective dimension. That is why, nineteen years later, we take pride in the journey we have travelled - directing 1,033 tons of caps for recycling and investing €668,254.00 in the delivery of 2,094 orthopedic and similar equipment, making a real difference in the lives of 740 beneficiaries”.

The legislation now in force establishes that packaging placed on the market must have caps attached to the main container.

Because of this new EU regulation: “The time has come to move to a new level of citizen participation and for LIPOR to do things differently. Thus, after 20 phases of Operation Bottle Caps, the initiative, as it has been conducted, comes to an end. But this is merely the closing of a cycle — many new developments will be coming soon”.

During the first semester of this year, the equipment from the last two phases, corresponding to caps collected through 2023 and 2024, will still be distributed, according to the association.
