The organisation said, in a statement, that the exhibition will be on show at the Douro wine producer Quanta Terra until 31 December 2025.

Created in 1999 by winemakers Celso Pereira and Jorge Alves, Quanta Terra acquired an old Casa do Douro distillery in Favaios to build a winery there, but the building, which opened in 2022, ended up becoming a multicultural space where the winemakers organise exhibitions, concerts, wine ageing and tastings.

Curated by Galeria Contagiarte, the new exhibition includes seven works by Alexandre Farto (Vhils), 11 by Hélio Bray (HelioBray) and the remaining seven by Paulo Neves.

The works will be spread throughout the space and, according to the organisation, aim to “build a parallel between wine making and art, starting with the seed and ending with the final product”.

“The idea for this exhibition comes from valorising the material and its context. Vhils excavates layers that reveal the story, like a painter on canvas. HelioBray mixes techniques and pigments, which lead to forms that connect to nature and, in turn, Paulo Neves unites sculpture and art, with a strong connection to wood and organic materials,” said Rui Pedro, Contagiarte's curator, in a statement.

He went on to say that the aim is to “extend this privilege to the interior of the country, making it possible for visitors and, above all, residents to enjoy impressive works of art in the spectacular and historic setting of the Douro region, in favour of more free culture for communities”.

The exhibition can be visited from Wednesday to Sunday, from 10 am to 5:30 pm.

Celso Pereira and Jorge Alves say they want to “reinforce the importance of valuing the interior”, opening the doors of the former Casa do Douro distillery to various forms of art, without ever forgetting “the role of wine as the driving force behind the region’s economy”.

Holder of two Best of Wine Tourism distinctions (2023 and 2025), in the Art and Culture category, awarded by the Great Wine Capitals, the Quanta Terra space has become, as the two winemakers emphasised, “a stage for cultural events, with free access”.

Since it opened, the former distillery has hosted an exhibition by Joana Vasconcelos (2022), in 2023 it was the stage for the exhibition “Colour in the Douro”, by artist Leni van Lopik and, in 2024, it hosted the exhibition “Ancestral Technique” curated by the cultural platform Underdogs Gallery and works of art by Portuguese and foreign artists, including Vhils, AkaCorleone, Pedrita Studio, PichiAvo, Raquel Belli and Vasco Maio.

The opening of the exhibition will be attended by the Secretary of State for Culture, Alberto Santos, and on the same day there will also be a conference on “Exclusive wine tourism: The growing demand for the interior”.

The conference will be moderated by the president of the Portuguese Wine Tourism Association (APENO), Maria João de Almeida, with interventions from the CEO of Immersa Global, Sheree Mitchell, the director of the Hotel Torel Quinta da Vacaria, Márcio Dias, and the course director of the Tourism degree programme at the University of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro (UTAD), Alexandre Sousa Guedes.
