According to Jornal Económico, “the gov.pt app, launched on 26 December, 2025, currently has more than 3.5 million downloads and offers new features, such as the renewal of the Citizen Card, digitally and without the need for in-person visits, the possibility for citizens, companies and public entities to receive electronic notifications from the Public Administration, and access to electronic invoices, a feature also already available on the gov.pt portal”.

If you need to renew your Citizen Card, you can now do so quickly and conveniently through the gov.pt app. This feature is one of the app's latest innovations, presented this Wednesday at the event “PRR: accelerating digital innovation in Portugal”, organised by the Agency for Administrative Modernisation (AMA).

According to AMA, “the gov.pt app, launched on 26 December, 2025, currently has more than 3.5 million downloads and offers new features, such as the renewal of the Citizen Card, digitally and without the need for in-person visits, the possibility for citizens, companies and public entities to receive electronic notifications from the Public Administration, and access to electronic invoices, a feature also already available on the gov.pt portal”.

In addition to the digital cards previously made available, such as the Citizen Card and the Driving License, “since July, cards from private entities have been added, such as the Car Insurance and the Health Card, and other cards from public entities such as the GNR Social Services Card, the Student Card, the Market Vendor Card, the Order of Veterinarians Card, the Order of Notaries Card and the Foreign Citizen Identifier”.

“The gov.pt app is consolidating itself as a centralized and secure platform for accessing public services and documents, as well as citizen identification documents, becoming a fundamental pillar of the digital transformation of Public Administration in Portugal”, highlights AMA.
