“To date, two cases of the variant associated with South Africa have been detected, and no case of this variant has been detected from 10 to 19 January, which suggests that the circulation of this variant is still limited in Portugal”, says the latest status report on the genetic diversity of the SARS-CoV-2 from INSA, published on 8 February on its website.
The first case identified in Portugal of this new variant was detected on 7 January. He was a 36-year-old man, born in South Africa, resident in Lisbon, who has been recovered since the 17 January.
