The new restrictions determined by the Government of Bucharest apply due to the fact that the four countries have registered, in recent days, higher incidences of infections than Romania. In addition to the four countries belonging to the European Union (EU), Romania has also placed Andorra on the same list.

According to the Portuguese Communities Portal, people who have been vaccinated or who have passed 10 days from the completion of the complete vaccination scheme are exempt from quarantine - proven by the Covid UE Digital Certificate or with the vaccination document issued by the medical unit.

Those who have been confirmed 'positive' for the SARS-CoV-2 virus infection in the 180 days prior to entry into Romania will also be allowed to enter that country, if at least 14 days have passed from the day of confirmation, and persons who they remain in Romanian territory for a period of less than 72 hours and present a negative RT-PCR test on entry into Romania, made up to 72 hours before boarding.

According to official local data, Romania currently has one of the lowest rates of contagion in the EU, with three cases per 100,000 inhabitants in the last 14 days, against 346.5 in Portugal and almost 500 in Spain.​​​​ The covid-19 pandemic has caused at least 4,061,908 deaths worldwide, among more than 188.3 million cases of infection by the new coronavirus, according to the latest report by the Agence France-Presse, released Thursday.
