A source from the Porto Chamber told Lusa that the Sapadores do Porto Fire Brigade and the Municipal Police were at the scene.
The problem was reported as being due to a "gas leak" on the new Rosa line of Metro do Porto, which resulted in some buildings in the vicinity of Praça da Liberdade being evacuated, including the Bank of Portugal and the Intercontinental Hotel.
According to the municipality, the leak occurred in a gas pipeline in front of the Intercontinental Hotel, at 1:55 pm.
