The fan was leading a cheering squad to support the team when everything happened. According to the reports of some who were present and reported to DN, the Portuguese man made an obscene gesture towards the police forces present in the enclosure who were closely watching the group, while others said that the man pushed a Qatari policeman during a more effusive celebration. He was therefore accused of "inappropriate behaviour" in the stands and detained.

The situation generated some buzz in the stands, but it was not considered a serious incident, which is why the fan was released at the end of the game, according to DN.
