Portugal’s restaurants are predicting over 100,000 workers in the sector will have to be let go during the first quarter of this year. According to a survey conducted by national restaurant promotion and innovation association PRO.VAR among restaurateurs, the business owners expect to have to dismiss three to four people per establishment by March. They blame the pandemic, lockdowns, restrictions and lack of support funds for the bleak prediction.
I would say that Portugal could lose half of its restaurants (including all personnel) and the government is aware of this. I think the governement gives less priority to the livelihood of the residents of the country than ist gives to a possible life extension of a minority.
