According to the epidemiological bulletin of the Directorate General of Health (DGS) 688 people with Covid-19 are hospitalised today, seven less than on Wednesday, 141 of which in intensive care, two more.

The area of Lisbon and Tagus Valley, with 794 new cases and the North region, with 931, have 67.5 percent of the total of new infections recorded in the last 24 hours.

The deaths occurred in the Lisbon and Tagus Valley region (6), in the North region (4), in the Algarve (1) and in the Autonomous region of the Azores (1).

Regarding the age of the fatal victims, the bulletin registers that seven were over 80 years old, three between 70 and 79 years old and one between 60 and 69 years old.

Regarding the age profile of the new confirmed cases of infection, it is in young people between 20 and 29 years (men and women) that there have been more cases, with 743 more infected in the last 24 hours.

Next are age groups between 10 and 19 years (498 new cases) and between 30 and 39 years (345 new cases).

The data released by DGS also shows that there are 304 more active cases, totalling 44,809, and that 2,238 people have been reported recovered in the last 24 hours, which increases the national total to 949,703 recovered.

Since the start of the pandemic in March 2020, 17,613 people have died in Portugal and 1,012,125 cases of infection have been recorded.

Health authorities have 304 fewer people on surveillance in the last 24 hours, bringing the total to 50,709.

The Lisbon and Tagus Valley region, with 794 new infections reported, has so far recorded 394,781 cases and 7,533 deaths.

In the North region, 931 new infections by SARS-CoV-2 were registered, totalling 389,972 cases of infection and 5,478 deaths since the pandemic began.

In the Centre region, there were 339 more cases, totalling 134,612 infections and 3,068 deaths.

In the Alentejo, 125 more cases were reported, totalling 35,861 infections and 1004 deaths since the start of the pandemic.

In the Algarve region, the bulletin records 279 new cases, accumulating 37,297 infections and 418 deaths.

The Autonomous region of Madeira has recorded 48 new cases, adding 11,292 infections and 72 deaths due to Covid-19 since March 2020.

The Azores now has 38 new cases, counting 8,310 cases and 40 deaths since the start of the pandemic.

The regional authorities of the Azores and Madeira release their data daily, which may not coincide with the information released in the DGS bulletin.

The new coronavirus has already infected at least 466,084 men and 545,320 women in Portugal, DGS data show, according to which there are 721 cases of unknown gender, which are under investigation as this information is not provided automatically.

Of the total number of fatal victims, 9,248 were men and 8,365 women.

The highest number of deaths continues to be concentrated in the elderly over 80 years old, followed by the age group between 70 and 79 years old.

Of the total deaths, 11,509 were people aged over 80, 3,775 were aged between 70 and 79, and 1,597 were aged between 60 and 69.
