Portugal today registers nine deaths associated with Covid-19, 450 confirmed cases of infection with the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus, and a new increase in hospital admissions, according to official data.
According to the epidemiological bulletin of the Directorate-General for Health (DGS) released today, 372 people are now hospitalized, 12 more than on Monday, of which 59 are in intensive care units, less one in the last 24 hours.
The nine deaths of people over 80 years old were registered in the regions of Lisbon (6), Center (2) and North (1).
Since the beginning of the pandemic, in March 2020, 18,171 people have died in Portugal and 1,091,592 cases of infection have been registered.
The greatest number of deaths continues to be concentrated among the elderly over 80 years old (11,864), followed by the age group between 70 and 79 years old (3,886).
Of the total number of fatalities registered to date, 9,530 in Portugal were men and 8,641 women.
The data released by the DGS also shows 96 more active cases, for a total of 32,036, and that 345 people were reported as recovered from covid-19 in the last 24 hours, which increases the national total to 1,041,385 recovered.
In the last 24 hours, the number of contacts under surveillance by the health authorities dropped (down 67), standing at 22,457.
The new coronavirus has already infected in Portugal at least 585,700 women and 505,146 men, according to data from the DGS, according to which there are 746 cases of unknown sex, which are under investigation, since this information is not provided automatically .
Among the new infections, the age group from 20 to 29 years old (over 71) stands out, followed by 30 to 39 years old (over 66), from 40 to 49 (over 63), from 0 to 9 years old (over 55), from 50 to 59 years old (over 54), from 60 to 69 years old (over 54), from 10 to 19 (over 31), from 70 to 79 (over 28) and from over 80 (over 28).
In the Lisbon and Vale do Tejo region, 146 new infections were reported, with 421,576 cases and 7,735 dead so far in this geographic area.
The Northern region registered 136 new infections by SARS-CoV-2, totaling 416,480 cases of infection and 5,599 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic crisis.
In the Center region there were more 83 cases, totaling 147,088 infections and 3,186 deaths.
In Alentejo, 21 new cases of infection were reported, totaling 40,216 infections and 1,053 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic.
In the Algarve region, today's DGS bulletin counts 19 new cases, accumulating 44,077 infections by SARS-CoV-2 and 479 deaths.
The Autonomous Region of Madeira recorded 36 new cases, totaling 12,771 infections and 74 deaths due to the covid-19 disease since March 2020.
In the last 24 hours, and according to DGS, the Azores registered nine new cases, which raises to 9,384 infections since the beginning of the pandemic and 45 deaths due to the disease.
The regional authorities of the Azores and Madeira publish their data daily, which may not coincide with the information published in the DGS bulletin.
