According to the December Economic Bulletin, the Portuguese economy will grow 5.8 percent in 2022, 3.1 percent in 2023 and 2.0 percent in 2024.

The forecasts released by the BdP for 2022 are equal to the most optimistic of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), which also points to an economic growth of 5.8 percent, and surpass those of the Government, which expects 5.5 percent.

The European Commission points to a 5.3 percent growth in the Gross Domestic Product (GDP), while the Public Finance Council (CFP) and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) are the most pessimistic entities, expecting an increase of 5.1% compared to 2021.

"Gross Domestic Product (GDP) returns to pre-pandemic levels in the first half of 2022. In 2024, economic activity will be around 7 percent above 2019, implying contained losses compared to the projected trend before the pandemic" , states the BdP in a communiqué that accompanies the dissemination of the bulletin.

The institution led by Mário Centeno also points out that the projections "review the growth of the economy in 2022-23 on the rise compared to that projected in June (0.2 and 0.7 pp [percentage points], respectively)".
