According to the daily epidemiological bulletin of the DGS, 1,174 people are hospitalised today, 51 less than on Tuesday, while in the intensive care units there are now 72 patients, six less than the previous day, although not all hospitalisations are due to Covid-19.
The number of active cases increased today to 478,344, 3,176 more than on Tuesday, and in the last 24 hours 11,400 people were reported to have recovered, for a total of 2,867,858 since the beginning of the pandemic.
Of the 19 deaths in the last 24 hours, eight occurred in the Centre region, five in the North region, three in Lisbon and Vale do Tejo, one in the Alentejo, one in the Algarve and one in the Autonomous Region of Madeira.
By age group, 16 elderly people over 80 years old, one person between 70 and 79 years old, one between 60 and 69 years old and one between 50 and 59 years old died.
Most of the new infections were diagnosed in the Lisbon and Tagus Valley region, with 6,155 infections, followed by the Centre (2,885), the North (2,294), the Algarve (965), the Alentejo (842), the Algarve (875), Azores (755) and Madeira (704).
Since the beginning of the pandemic, in March 2020, the Lisbon and Tagus Valley region has recorded 1,195,765 cases and 8,796 deaths.
In the North region, there were 1,246,613 infections and 6,501 deaths and the Central region now has an accumulated total of 513,576 infections and 3,794 deaths.
The Algarve has a total of 141,011 infections and 698 deaths and the Alentejo has 124,464 cases and 1,186 deaths from Covid-19.
The Autonomous Region of Madeira has, since the beginning of the pandemic, 84,093 infections and 194 deaths and the Azores archipelago 61,947 cases and 97 deaths.
The regional authorities of the Azores and Madeira publish their data daily, which may not coincide with the information disclosed in the DGS bulletin.
Since March 2020, 21,267 people in Portugal have died who were infected with SARS-CoV-2, of which 11,184 were men and 10,083 were women.
