According to the idealista price index, the prices of houses for rent in Portugal increased by 2.7% in October compared to the previous month. Renting a house had a cost of 12.1 euros per square meter (euros/m2) at the end of October this year, taking into account the median value. In relation to the quarterly variation, the increase in rents in Portugal was 6.4% and the annual increase was 12.3%.

October rental prices rose in 11 of the 13 district capitals analysed by idealista. And it was Aveiro (7.3%) that topped the list. Among the cities that showed the highest increases in house rents in this period are Lisbon (6.5%), Setúbal (5.4%), Funchal (3.4%), Viseu (3.3%), Braga (2 .9%), Coimbra (2.3%), Porto (2.0%), Santarém (1.8%), Faro (1.5%) and Viana do Castelo (1.0%).

On the other hand, the prices of houses for rent in Portugal fell in Castelo Branco (-9.3%) and Leiria (-0.7%), according to the study.

Lisbon continues to be the city where it is most expensive to rent a house: 16.7 euros/m2. Porto (12.5 euros/m2) and Funchal (11.4 euros/m2) occupy the second and third places, respectively. Next are Faro (9.5 euros/m2), Setúbal (9.4 euros/m2), Aveiro (9.3 euros/m2), Viana do Castelo (8.3 euros/m2) and Coimbra (8.2 euros/m2).

The cheapest cities to rent a house in the country are Castelo Branco (5.0 euros/m2), Viseu (5.6 euros/m2), Santarém (6.1 euros/m2), Leiria (6.5 euros/m2 ) and Braga (7.3 euros/m2).
