"Ukraine and Russia have been at war for almost a year and, over all these weeks, essential food goods have seen their prices rise almost consecutively. In the first week of the new year, the trend continues. Between February 23, 2022 and January 4, 2023, the increase was 35.78 euros (19.48% more), with a basket of essential food items now costing 219.40 euros", states the DECO website.
Before the war, on February 23 last year, the same basket cost 183.63 euros, recalls DECO.
"Dairy products are the food category whose rise was most pronounced, in percentage terms (26.30%). Between milk, cheese, yogurt and butter, the Portuguese can spend, this week, 14.50 euros, plus 3.02 euros than they would spend for the same set of products on February 23, before the start of the war", it can be read.
DECO also reveals that "meat is also increasingly expensive", but "inflation is also felt in other food categories"
Its is a simple rip off by the every company. Why? Well just have a look on the Gas and Oil prices. You will see that they are almost pre-war levels. Which means that all the price increase is just pure greed and usage of the situation.
