“Of the identified homeless people, only 40.5% are residents of the city of Porto, with an increase of 11.4% of homeless people compared to 2021 from other municipalities”, said the Porto City Council councillor for Social Cohesion, Fernando Paulo.
For the mayor “this data reinforces the urgent need to adopt an inter-municipal strategy to face this challenge, which cannot be the municipality of Porto alone to respond to”.
Regarding the characterisation of homeless people, the majority (82.1%) are men, "maintaining the trend registered in previous years", he stressed.
Most of these people are between 45 and 64 years old (66.13%) and between 31 and 44 years old (21.9%).
As in 2021 and previous years, the overwhelming majority of homeless people are of Portuguese nationality (87%), with 13% from other countries.
