According to a note from Parques de Sintra-Monte da Lua (PSML) sent to Lusa, “following the weather conditions” on Wednesday night and early morning today, the park “and Palácio Nacional da Pena, the Chalet da Condessa d' Edla, the Moorish Castle and the Capuchos Convent are, for security reasons, temporarily closed.”

“The Monserrate Road is also closed, and access to the Monserrate Park and Palace is restricted,” adds PSML.

The National Road (EN) 375, between Sintra and Colares (Lisbon district), is closed to traffic due to the fall of a tree, at around 02:00, caused by heavy rain and strong winds, and it is expected that the removal and cleaning of the road will be completed by 11 am, according to an official source from the company that manages Sintra's parks and monuments.

The Monserrate Palace, due to its location, remains open, as visitors can access it via the EN375 on the Colares side.

The monuments will remain closed until 12 pm, “to assess the safety conditions on-site”, and “the information will be updated on the official channels of Parques de Sintra”, says the society’s note.

The National Emergency and Civil Protection Authority (ANEPC) recorded 40 incidents related to strong winds between midnight and 7 am today, most of which were falling trees, but without causing any casualties.
