Until the end of October, the company will make flights to the Algarve, where it has 9 A320 aircraft (4 based + 5 not based), with a total capacity of 2.1 million seats, increasing its capacity by 15 percent when compared to 2022.
easyJet will connect Faro to different European destinations, such as Barcelona, Berlin, Milan and Paris, providing its customers with several routes to travel for leisure or work.
Operating two more routes than in 2021, easyJet also hopes to contribute to boosting the tourist region of the Algarve, allowing passengers to fly directly from several European cities to the south of Portugal.
José Lopes, General Manager of easyJet Portugal, said: “We are really looking forward to restarting the season and being back in the skies over the Algarve. In 2021, we made one of our biggest investments in Portugal, with the reopening of the Faro air base, which significantly contributed to the recovery of the economy and tourism in the Algarve region. This easyJet investment led to more than 130 direct contracts, increasing local employability.
“With the return of flights in Faro and with a 15 percent increase in capacity compared to 2022, we hope to continue to contribute to the development of the Algarve region, while providing our customers with more possibilities to travel, whether for work or pleasure”.
easyJet started operating in Portugal in July 1998 and since then has transported around 70 million passengers to/from the country through more than 89 routes. The airline currently has three bases in Portugal (Lisbon, Porto and Faro), with 30 aircraft, also flying to Funchal and Porto Santo, and has a team of around 830 employees under local contracts.
