“Let’s fly together again and connect Portugal from north to south. From February 19th we will resume the regional air connection between Bragança, Vila Real, Viseu, Cascais and Portimão”, announced the company, in a post on social media.
The regional air route was interrupted on 30 September, when the last direct agreement with the company Sevenair ended, while the outcome of the international public tender to grant the concession for another four years was awaited.
It was in that month that the airline announced that the route would stop until the amount it was due to receive from the State was paid, as it was in a situation of “cash strangulation”. Before that, in February, the number of daily flights had already been reduced.
The Government has, however, paid around half of the debt it owed the company, which was around 3.8 million euros.
From the beginning of the concession until the service was stopped, two direct adjustments were made, first with the socialist government and then with the current Government, led by Luís Montenegro.
The result of the public tender was known at the end of 2024, with the only competitor - Sevenair -, which has provided the service since 2009, being chosen to continue operating for the next four years.
In January, the Ministry of Infrastructure guaranteed that it was making every effort to resume the regional air route that connects Trás-os-Montes to the Algarve.
