By 15:15, in addition to the six air assets, 150 operators and 38 vehicles were on the ground.
"The fire is progressing in an area of eucalyptus and pine forests and the wind is hampering combat operations", said the source from the Sub-Regional Command of Beiras and Serra da Estrela, in Guarda.
According to the website of the National Emergency and Civil Protection Authority (ANEPC), the fire started at around 1:26pm in the town of Unhais da Serra, in the municipality of Covilhã.
Eucalypts and pines. I thought they were now illegal to cultivate in Portugal? Can anyone enlighten me?

No it's not illegal to grow eucalyptus. After the 2017 fires there was a lot of talk about limiting the planting of it, but it's not enforced, of course!

Surprise surprise.... anything which is not related to tourism or selling over priced properties is ignored. Portugal has obviously no interest in caring about the environment nor preventing forest fires. Easier to go begging for more EU funds. (which are then quickly hidden in private pockets).
