They have been involved with various charity events over the years to help their neighbourhood, raising funds for vital equipment for the Bombeiros, providing bicycles for the cadets, hosting several 'Harvest Festivals' to provide food for various needy charities, Castelo de Sonhos in Silves, Casa de Povo in Messines etc.

This outstanding contribution was rewarded on Tuesday at a lunch to celebrate Pat's 82nd birthday and Liberation Day, they were presented with gifts from the Presidents of Silves (Rosa Palma), Messines ( Carla Isabel Loureiro Viegas Benedito) and Amorosa (Barlomino Custodio), a commemorative set of medals, a wall tile painting of the church in Messines and a photo encased in glass of Pat & Barrie.

Having reached the ages of 82 and 84, they are content to pop into the Sociadade to meet friends and have a coffee.
