Speaking to the Lusa agency, meteorologist Patrícia Marques, from the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA), said that there will be a change in the weather from today onwards with a drop in the maximum temperature and rain forecast.
“Today the parameter that will be most significant will be the drop in maximum temperature, which in some places will be around five degrees. These are values below normal for the time of year and tomorrow [Saturday] a further drop in the maximum [temperature] is expected,” she said.
According to Patrícia Marques, the cause of the change in the weather is a cold front that is approaching mainland Portugal.
“From this afternoon onwards, rain is forecast on the Minho and Douro coast and then it will begin to cross the northern and central regions. Tonight, with a depression in the upper levels of the atmosphere that will settle over the Iberian Peninsula, we will have an episode of precipitation that could last a few days on the continent,” she said.
At least until Tuesday, according to the IPMA meteorologist, showers are expected, which can sometimes be accompanied by thunderstorms and hail.
With regard to maximum temperatures, according to Patrícia Marques, they will be below 30 degrees Celsius in most of the country.
“In the Alentejo, we will have maximum temperatures of 26/27 degrees. In coastal regions around 22/24 degrees. In Porto they drop to 24 and in Lisbon to 25. The minimum temperatures also have a slight drop and are around 15/16 degrees,” she said.
