The awards ceremony took place at the Convento de São Francisco, in Santarém in the presence of government entities, representatives of Repsol and figures from the gastronomic sector.

According to the organisation, "from Porto to the Algarve, "passing through Lisbon and Madeira", 194 Portuguese restaurants were recognised, from the "large traditional houses" to "the simplest food houses".

Among the award winners, four restaurants stood out, receiving 3 Suns, the highest distinction from the Repsol Guide: Belcanto (Lisbon), by José Avillez; Il Gallo D’Oro (Funchal), by Benoît Sinthon; Ocean (Porches) by Chef Hans Neuner, and The Yeatman (Vila Nova de Gaia), by Ricardo Costa.

Seventeen restaurants from seven regions of the country received two Suns, and 49 restaurants from 10 regions of the country received one Sun.

The list also includes 124 recommended restaurants and four restaurants received the "Sustainable Sun" award for their commitment to the environment, particularly in combating food waste and investing in local products.

The event, which was attended by the president of Repsol, Antonio Brufau, the Secretary of State for Tourism, Pedro Machado, and local mayors, aims to "promote and recognise gastronomy and tourism in Portugal", "celebrate Portuguese gastronomy in all its dimensions" and increase tourism, strengthening links with Spain".

At the ceremony, Repsol President Antonio Brufau highlighted the "strong and reciprocal relationship" between Portugal and Spain, noting that "2.4 million Spaniards visited the country in 2024".

The leader of the oil company, which supplies fuel to Spain, Portugal, Peru and Mexico, added that the guide aims to "strengthen Iberian ties and highlight the extraordinary Portuguese gastronomy".

Milestone

The Secretary of State for Tourism, Pedro Machado, classified the gala as "a milestone for the sector", highlighting the "international recognition of Portuguese cuisine".

María Rittler, director of the guide, emphasised that this ceremony aims to "recognise the talent of Portuguese gastronomy", while the president of the Santarém City Council, João Leite, highlighted that this event will contribute "to attracting more visitors to the municipality" in Ribatejo.

The ceremony was hosted by Inês Lopes Gonçalves and featured a presentation by António Zambujo.

The Repsol guide is a ceremony consisting of a classification system created by local experts, focusing on "the culture, tradition and gastronomic and tourist potential of the country".

The ceremony was held in Portugal between 1989 and 2016, when the organisation decided to take a break "for deep reflection with a view to adapting to the tourist and gastronomic demands of new travellers and diners".

After 9 years, the Repsol Guide returns to Portugal, with the aim of being "a meeting point for the Portuguese gastronomic community and interacting with it to grow".
