In a statement, the body responsible for national professional football competitions justifies the request, after having received the explanation from the Arbitration Council (CA) of the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) and the reports from the delegates to the game.
“The LPFP informs that it will request the FPF Disciplinary Council (CD) to initiate an investigation process to investigate the reasons that caused it, so that responsibilities for what happened can be ascertained”, reads the statement from the body chaired by Pedro Proença.
No power
On Sunday, the video refereeing system at Estádio do Dragão, in Porto, was without power for 14 minutes at FC Porto-Arouca, in the fourth round of the Liga Portugal.
According to the FPF CA, the system ran out of power in the 87th minute of the match, which ended in a 1-1 draw, lasting until 90+11.
During this period, referee Miguel Nogueira awarded a penalty to Iranian striker Mehdi Taremi, having reversed the decision, after telephone contact with the video referee (VAR), without having reviewed the images of the play that took place in the 90+6 minute.
Without access to the images, referee Miguel Nogueira addressed the coaches of both teams to reveal the decision to reverse the aforementioned penalty, an action contested, immediately after the game, by FC Porto, who protested the validity of the match.
“FC Porto presented a protest to the League delegates with a view to cancelling the game with Arouca. This measure is based on the referee's actions at the time of the reversal, following a telephone call and without access to images of the play, of the penalty awarded by the field referee for a foul on Mehdi Taremi”, informed FC Porto, in a statement.
In the same note, FC Porto considers that the match referee, Miguel Nogueira, committed a “violation of the rules of the game”.
“Miguel Nogueira’s action constitutes a violation of the rules of the game and an error with a potential serious impact on the outcome of the match”, concludes the club.
