The new Vila Baleira Park revitalises the place where the campsite operated for 40 years, which was under-utilised. According to the president of the Regional Government, Miguel Albuquerque, quoted by Jornal da Madeira, the use of the campsite "was residual”. Furthermore, he added that “camping is not the objective of Porto Santo”. “I am a defender of tourism as a quality offering”, he said.
The park will have, a “boat house”, which will be operated as a bar/cafeteria, restrooms, picnic/leisure areas, a sandy playground, or a beach volleyball court. It will be open from June to September from 7:30am to 2:00am, and from October to May from 8:00am to midnight according to an article on idealista.pt.
“The park is magnificent, it respects the Porto Santo ecosystem, it is a park that is very well designed in terms of sustainability, particularly with the use of rainwater and we think it is a great opportunity to state, once again, that this investment is for the present, but above all thinking about the future and the urbanisation and growth of the city”, highlighted Miguel Albuquerque.
