Until 10 November, the Portuguese State paid 24.4 million euros in support for the replacement of infrastructure and equipment destroyed by the floods that occurred between 2022 and 2023, as revealed by the Ministry of Territorial Cohesion.
To the Lusa agency, Minister Ana Abrunhosa's office informed that “the financial contributions planned for 2023 have been fully paid since 10 November 2023”.
The contributions total 24,442,651.55 euros, and are divided between several regions: 9.337 million euros for 14 municipalities in Lisbon and Vale do Tejo, 7.321 million for 50 municipalities in the North, 3.961 million for 14 municipalities in the Center and 3.821 million for 14 cameras in Alentejo.
The contribution for the rehabilitation of equipment was foreseen in a resolution of the Council of Ministers, with an indicative budgetary allocation of 91 million euros, to be allocated through the State Budget, preceded by inspection by the Regional Coordination and Development Commissions (CCDR).
Several districts on the continent were affected by heavy rains between December 2022 and January this year, causing floods, damage to roads, businesses and homes, and leaving dozens of people homeless. In Algés, in the municipality of Oeiras, one death was recorded.
Several municipalities affected by the floods regretted the delay in the process of granting the support promised by the government.
