In a statement, the IPMA explained that mainland Portugal has been influenced by a mass of polar air, which has resulted in temperature values slightly lower than normal for the time of year.
After an interruption between January 9th and 10th, on the 11th and 12th the temperature “will drop again, especially the minimum temperature, due to the incursion of a new mass of polar air, with a continental trajectory”.
According to IPMA, this new mass of polar air will gradually affect the north of the Iberian Peninsula and later the southern regions, although with a reduced impact.
Minimum temperatures between -5 and 0°C are expected for Friday in most of the northern and central interior, and “lower values may be recorded locally”.
Most of the country will have minimum temperatures below 5°C, except for a few places on the central and southern coast.
The IPMA also highlighted that "the formation of ice or frost is expected, especially in the northern and central interior, which could have a significant impact on road traffic”.
