The local expat community had noted that the scouts were struggling for funds, which would normally aid and abet their usual activities. The expats, who are fortunate to live in this area, many whom were former Scouts themselves, felt that they ought to do something about it.
The group wanted to assist the Scouts with funding so that they could carry out activities that would normally enable them to interact with the local community.
A dinner and wine tasting was organised for 40 expats, with wines kindly provided by Wines & Co from Almancil, where €4050 was raised, and in addition, a whisky tasting event was held which raised an additional €3,000.
A portion of the funds has been used to undertake excursions to Portimão and Olhão enabling the Scouts to experience and learn activities for their education and for their development of civil character.
The fundraisers hope to see continued interaction with Scout Group 290 and look to assist them in their future endeavours. Should anyone want to know about future events please contact community@theportugalnews.com
