The invitation sent by the Board of Directors of Metro do Porto, which Lusa had access to, indicates that the ceremony will take place at 10:00 at the beginning of Santo Ovídio station.
The session will be attended by the Minister of Infrastructure, Miguel Pinto Luz, and the Minister of the Environment, Maria da Graça Carvalho.
The extension of the Yellow Line (D) between Santo Ovídio and Vila d'Este, in Vila Nova de Gaia, in the Porto district, includes the Manuel Leão and Hospital Santos Silva stations.
With a length of more than three kilometers, the contract to extend the Yellow Line to Vila d'Este began in 2021 and included the construction of a 420-meter viaduct between Santo Ovídio and Manuel Leão (underground station), a one-kilometer tunnel to the Hospital Santos Silva station and a Material and Workshop Park (PMO).
In Santo Ovídio, the current Yellow Line station will also have a pedestrian connection to the future Rubi Line station (Santo Ovídio - Casa da Música) and the future high speed train station, also in Santo Ovídio, whose roundabout should be transformed into a square.
The total costs of extending the Porto Metro Yellow Line amount to 206.4 million euros, according to the previous Government.
Currently, Metro do Porto has six lines in operation, awaiting the inauguration of the extension of the Yellow Line (D) between Santo Ovídio and Vila d'Este (Vila Nova de Gaia), and the completion of the works on the Pink Line ( G), between São Bento and Casa da Música (Porto) and the metrobus line between Casa da Música and Praça do Império.
Work on the Rubi Line (Santo Ovídio - Casa da Música), which includes a new bridge over the Douro River, has already started, and the public tender for the second phase of the 'metrobus', which will connect the service to Praça Cidade do Salvador (Anémona roundabout), has also been launched.
