BdP data show that, compared to May 2019, the growth in tourist revenue – which is reflected in the spending of foreign tourists in Portugal – is even more significant, as this value rose by 884 million euros compared to the same month in the pre-pandemic period, which represents an increase of 56.7%
The BdP highlights the role of Travel and Tourism in increasing service exports, explaining, in the statement accompanying the numbers, that “the increase in exports mainly reflects the contribution of travel and tourism (+256 million euros)”.
According to the BdP, tourism imports also rose, resulting from spending by Portuguese tourists abroad, which totalled 611 million euros in May, which translates into an increase of 57 million euros or an increase of 10.4%.
Where? Not in the Algarve. Maybe in Lisboa and Porto. This season looks very weak. The Eurocup, then the Olympics... The weather is perfect, but this season looks f#%ked.

Of course the revenue are more, the revenues reflect the price increase in Portugal, of course the inflation rate but also speculation and “legal rubbery” but can we know the numbers of presences, people and days spent in Algarve in comparison with last year ? Thanks

I have friends with businesses in Albufeira and Sesimbra.
They say business is spotty at best.
The restaurants are busy one night and dead the next.
My friend with a paddleboard tour company in Sesimbra has booked 4 tours this year, last year he was booked every day.
He also has the highest ratings.
I think the the restaurants and bars are taking a hit from all these hotels going "all inclusive" .
It seems airfares have gone up and people are adjusting their spending.

Whilst it is always good to see Portugal on the up, it is sad that the infrastructure is not able to cope. Speed up the development of a New Airport and something needs to be done at Faro Airport as standing in a queue for 2hours or more (every single day )is resulting in holiday makers getting their transport to hotels saying that they will never come back.
This will have a negative effect on the tourism industry, come on you have e-gates start using them.
As family start coming to visit this is now a challenge for those with small children.
