The Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) has also placed the districts of Porto, Viana do Castelo, Leiria, Aveiro, and Coimbra under yellow warning until 6 pm today due to persistently high maximum temperature values.
The highest maximum temperature forecast for today will be reached in Beja with 42 degrees, followed by Évora and Castelo Branco with 41 degrees and Portalegre and Santarém with 40.
The district of Vila Real will have a maximum temperature of 39 degrees, Lisbon, Viseu, Braga, and Bragança 38 and Faro 36 degrees.
The Madeira archipelago is also under a yellow warning until 6:00 pm due to the hot weather.
Due to the hot weather, more than 40 municipalities in the districts of Faro, Portalegre, Santarém, Castelo Branco, Viseu, Guarda, and Bragança are currently facing a maximum risk of rural fires.
The IPMA also placed several municipalities in all districts of mainland Portugal at a very high and high risk of fire.
According to IPMA calculations, the danger of fire will remain high in some districts at least until Sunday.
This risk, determined by IPMA, has five levels, ranging from low to high, and calculations are obtained from air temperature, relative humidity, wind speed, and amount of precipitation in the last 24 hours.
The IPMA forecasts that hot weather will continue with partly cloudy or clear skies, light to moderate winds from the west a slight drop in maximum temperatures on the coast of the northern and central regions, and a slight rise in the Algarve.
Minimum temperatures will range between 17 degrees Celsius (in Setúbal) and 25 (in Portalegre) and maximum temperatures between 25 degrees (in Aveiro) and 42 (in Beja).
For the Madeira archipelago, the IPMA expects periods of very cloudy skies, gradually becoming slightly cloudy from early morning, light to moderate winds from the north/northeast, and a small rise in maximum temperatures in the highlands.
In Funchal, temperatures will vary between 21 and 28 degrees, and in Porto Santo between 21 and 26 degrees.
