The situation came to light following a complaint made by a group of tourists from Washington D.C., in the United States, who claimed to have been the target of an attempted fraud (and kidnapping) by a man who identified himself as a taxi driver and that, at the end of the trip, he requested payment of almost 700 euros, for driving "a special taxi from the airport".
Questioned by Notícias ao Minuto, the security forces reported that “the cases reported to the PSP are under investigation”.
The police highlighted a campaign by ANA - Aeroportos de Portugal which, on a proposal from the PSP, warns of similar cases.
“Authorized drivers do not approach passengers. Follow the signage or book the service through the apps”.
