According to the National Statistics Institute (INE), tourist accommodation registered three million guests and 7.8 million overnight stays, which represents growth of 6.7% and 4.8%, respectively, below the rates of 9.4% and 7.5% in May.
Over the first half of the year, overnight stays grew by 4.5%, reaching 35.5 million, resulting in increases of 12.3% in total revenue and 12.1% in accommodation, a development driven by the contribution of foreigners.
“This increase was mainly due to overnight stays by non-residents, which grew by 5.8%, while those by residents grew more modestly (+1.4%)”, explains the INE. Of the total overnight stays, 25.5 million, or 71.5%, were generated by foreign guests.
The number of guests in the first six months of the year exceeded 14.3 million, 5.6% more than in the first half of last year.
Over the year, total revenue reached 2.8 billion euros and revenue from accommodation amounted to 2.1 billion euros.
“It is worth noting that the municipalities of Lisbon and Porto, together, concentrated more than half of the total overnight stays in the Brazilian (60.8%), North American (59.7%) and Italian (57.3%) markets in the first half of the year”, the statement indicates.
In the second quarter of 2024, total revenue and revenue from accommodation increased by 10.9% and 10.7%, respectively, slowing the growth rate compared to the previous two quarters. In the first quarter, growth rates of 15.3% and 15.1% were recorded, respectively, and in the fourth quarter of 2023, of 15.5% and 16.5%.
Well you don't reply. Are you in fact a paper for normal people who live here? Or just investors killing the place? Cheers
