The change to the regulation for granting scholarships to higher education students was already provided for in the State Budget for 2024 and was published today in the Official Gazette.
According to the law, "displaced scholarship students who are beneficiaries of an accommodation supplement (...) are entitled to travel allowance, in the months in which they benefit from that supplement, in the amount of €40, with an annual maximum of €400".
Currently, travel allowance is set at €25 per month, with an annual maximum of €250.
The changes will take effect from 1 January 2024 and will apply "to all applications already submitted on the date of their entry into force", adds the order from the Minister of Education, Science, and Innovation.
The accommodation supplement is support paid to displaced scholarship students who do not obtain a place in public residences and varies between 264.24 euros and 456.41 euros, depending on the city.
From the next academic year, displaced students without a scholarship, whose family per capita income varies between 836 euros and 1,018 euros per month, will also receive accommodation support corresponding to 50% of the value of the supplement granted to scholarship holders.
