The University of Évora (UÉ) will launch a degree in Aerospace Engineering, expanding its academic offerings and strengthening the region’s status as a centre of excellence. Rector Hermínia Vasconcelos Vilar shared that this new program is “not only an achievement for the institution but also for the Alentejo region,” highlighting its significance for local development and innovation.
The program has been accredited by the Agency for Assessment and Accreditation of Higher Education (A3ES) for six years, confirming its quality and relevance in the field. The university has announced that the course will initially offer 20 places. According to the UÉ, this new degree aligns with the university’s Strategic Development Plan for 2023-2026, prioritising aerospace engineering as a key area.
“This program will be fundamental in attracting talent and consolidating specialised knowledge,” Vasconcelos Vilar emphasised. Beyond education, the rector highlighted that the degree would broaden research and innovation opportunities, reinforcing collaborations with companies and technology centres both nationally and internationally.
UÉ has already made progress in aerospace research. In 2021, the university partnered with CEiiA – Center for Engineering and Product Development to establish the CEiiA Chair of Aerospace Science and Technology. This initiative fosters research into innovative materials, automation, robotics, and aeronautical systems integration.
According to the university, the CEiiA plays a vital role in knowledge transfer and technological development, further enhancing Alentejo’s position in the aeronautical sector. As mentioned in the statement, “The launch of this program will not only enhance UÉ’s educational offerings but also contribute to the growth of the aerospace cluster developing in the region”.
