The decision was taken at the last executive meeting of 2024 and is part of the Local Housing Strategy, the city hall's commitment to creating a more inclusive and socially balanced territory.

Among the measures approved, the award for the construction of the Temporary Accommodation Center and Transition Apartments, in Pego Longo, in the Union of Parishes of Queluz and Belas, stands out. This project, budgeted at more than 6 million, foresees the creation of 34 housing units, of which 16 will be used for urgent accommodation and 18 will function as transitional apartments. These units will be part of the National Urgent and Temporary Housing Grant, reinforcing social responses in the municipality.

Furthermore, the city hall gave the green light to open international public tenders for the construction of two collective housing buildings at controlled costs. The first, with an estimated value of 2.65 million euros, will be built in the Union of Parishes of Cacém and São Marcos and will have 12 housing units, including T1, T2 and T3. The second project, valued at around 1 million euros, will be built in Queluz and Belas, offering six housing units, with types T1 and T2.

The municipal executive meeting also approved the carrying out of the Municipal Energy Rehabilitation Contract for 16 housing units, an investment of more than €638 thousand. This intervention, which will be carried out in the Union of Parishes of Queluz and Belas, aims to combat energy poverty, ensuring a reduction of at least 10% in the heating or cooling needs of homes.

Basílio Horta, mayor of Sintra, highlighted that “this investment is another step in the implementation of the Local Housing Strategy” and reaffirmed the municipality's commitment to promoting a developed and inclusive municipality, prioritising the well-being of communities.

The projects are funded by the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR) and are part of a broader strategy that aims to guarantee access to decent housing for families facing financial difficulties.
