At the same time, Portugal’s famous tax benefits scheme, the NHR, finally ended in 2024 after a transition period and a new program, TISRI, becomes available in 2025.

Fresh Portugal is the largest expat legal consultancy and it files over 500 tax returns for expats yearly. It will be holding a free webinar on filing the 2024 Portuguese tax return.

Every expat living in Portugal must file their taxes every year and the filing itself requires deep understanding of the interaction between different tax systems and is rarely a task that can be DIYed.

2023 in particular had some major changes and particularly in relation to capital gains from securities, leading to tax exemptions worth tens and sometimes hundreds of thousands of Euros finally applied correctly by the tax authority, with many expats filing taxes themselves or using low cost accountants that are not used to working with expats filing their taxes wrong and losing out.

The webinar will cover some of the following subjects:

1. Who should file a tax return in Portugal?

2. How to report your different streams of income for 2024?

3. What changed from 2023?

4. If I also need to file in another country (including in the US), where should I file first?

5. Important filing dates and updates to Portugal’s tax regulations

6. Typical errors and costly mistakes

The free webinar will be held on Thursday, 16 January, at 4:00 PM Portugal Time.
