The Island, with its unique landscape, rich local culture and strategic location, could be the perfect setting to create something magical and transcendent.

Have you heard of Boega Island, located in the Minho River, has been practically abandoned for many years? Located in the municipality of Vila Nova de Cerveira, the island of around 50 hectares is on the border between Portugal and Spain, around 1h20 by car from Porto and just 50 minutes from Vigo.

In the past, Boega Island was an agricultural village, but its future promises to be very different. An ambitious new theme park is planned for this location, called Porto Boega. The project is a partnership between BlueCrow Capital, Obvious Gravity and Storyland Studios, and aims to transform the island into a leisure and entertainment destination.

The theme park will include attractions such as roller coasters and other rides, as well as shops and restaurants. As with any major park of this genre, there will also be a narrative that ties the experience together, focusing on a group of characters from various cultures who are invited to live on the island. This story promises to engage and captivate visitors, providing an immersive experience.

According to Time Out, while there are few details about the specific attractions or the design of the roller coasters, no start or completion dates have yet been announced for the project. The estimated construction cost has also not been revealed, but the work is expected to take several years to complete.

On the Storyland Studios website you can read “Boega Island is, indeed, a special place. From the landscape to the local culture and its strategic location, this place exudes potential. Not to mention the fact that it’s an island in the middle of a river, surrounded by nature, what better place in the world to create something magical, powerful and transcendent?”

Despite the lack of concrete information, this project is already generating enthusiasm. Turning an abandoned island into a theme park is an innovative idea that could attract visitors from Portugal, Spain and beyond.
