“From today we will start to notice an increase in cloudiness with medium and high clouds with the sky becoming temporarily opaque, in fact obscured, the sky not appearing mainly in the central and southern regions and there is a very low possibility of scattered showers in the center and south already”, said the meteorologist from the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA).

According to Maria João Frada, suspended dust is expected to come from North Africa, mainly at the end of today in the central and southern regions, but with a greater impact on Thursday and Friday.

“Regarding precipitation, starting tomorrow [Thursday], it is more likely that there will be rain or showers early in the morning in the southern region and then it will spread to the central region. The north is the region most protected from this precipitation,” he said.

On Friday, periods of rain or showers accompanied by thunderstorms and locally intense are expected across the entire mainland, a scenario that should last at least until Sunday.

“At the moment, we have a depression roughly to the west of Madeira that will move southeast and pass between Madeira and the Canaries: the Olivier depression, named by AEMET, the Spanish state meteorological agency, due to its impact on the Canaries. It is not very clear whether it is another nucleus that is sinking closer to mainland Portugal and will gradually move northeast towards the continent on the 10th [Thursday]. It is not clear that it is this depression,” he explained.

According to Maria João Frada, there is some uncertainty regarding depression.

As for temperatures, Maria João Frada said that a significant drop is expected, especially on Friday.

“On the 11th [Friday], temperatures will drop across the entire country, and these drops could be in the order of 6, 7 or 8 degrees. Until then, we will continue to have above-average maximums. Yesterday [Tuesday] they were and today they will also be significantly above average,” he said.

According to IPMA forecasts, temperatures should vary between 24/25 degrees and 28, with temperatures reaching 30 degrees on the north and central coast and between 22 and 24 degrees in the north and central interior.
