The party starts on February 25th with the “Sport for All!” School Parade, which will start at 3:30 pm on Avenida dos Descobrimentos. On the 28th, it will be the turn of the Guia Children's Parade, which, under the motto “The best sport is here”, will take place between 10 am and 11 am, next to the city's Multi-Sports Court.
The Trapalhão Carnival returns to downtown on March 1st, starting at 2:30 pm, inviting all revellers to dress up to celebrate the most fun time of the year. Three days of Carnival Balls follow at EMA, on the 1st, 3rd and 4th of March, starting at 8pm, with the exception of the 4th, when the party starts earlier, at 2pm.
This year, the Paderne Carnival stands out with nine floats that celebrate local history and culture, joining groups of revelers to parade through the streets of the parish on March 1st, starting at 7 pm, and on Shrove Tuesday, the 4th, at 3 pm.
In Ferreiras, there will also be Carnaval Trapalhão, this time with a futuristic theme, where figures created by artificial intelligence will parade along Avenida 12 de Julho on March 2nd and 4th, between 2pm and 5pm.
The mayor of Albufeira, José Carlos Rolo, emphasizes that “Carnival celebrations are very important not only because it is a time of joy, fun, and the transmission of traditions, but also of social criticism carried out in a healthy and fun way, always with respect for all people and organizations”.
In addition to the big parades, the city of Albufeira begins its celebrations on February 25th, with the “Sport for All!” School Parade, which will feature more than 800 children from Creche Os Palmeirinhas (Artistic Skating), Creche Os Amendoinhas (Auto Racing), Creche Os Piratas (Target Shooting), Búzio (Diving), Eden Montessori, Academia dos Marinheiros (MTB/Basketball), Grãozinho de Areia Quinta dos Pardais (Water Sports – Rowing), Infantário Os Traquinas (Surfing), Clube Avô (Swimming), ATL das Fontainhas (Football Fan Club), Jardim de Infância Caliços (Table Football) and EB Sesmarias (Soccer and Tennis).
The parish of Guia will also have its Children's Parade, which will take place on February 28th, between 10 am and 11 am, in front of the local Sports Center. The organization is by the Guia Parish Council, which, like in Albufeira, chose Sport as the theme for Carnival 2025.
The Trapalhão Carnival returns to downtown Albufeira on March 1st, organized by the Parish Council of Albufeira and Olhos de Água. The meeting point will be at 2:30 pm, at Largo do Cais Herculano, so that the parade can begin at 3 pm, passing through Praça dos Pescadores, Rua Cândido dos Reis and ending at Largo Eng.º Duarte Pacheco. The entertainment is provided by the “Show Invictus” group of dancers and live music by Benny Santiago.
The Carnival Mask Ball and Contest, a centuries-old tradition in Balneário, takes place at the Balneário Multipurpose Space (EMA). On March 1st and 3rd, doors open at 8pm and close at 3am. On the 4th, the festivities start earlier, at 2 pm, and end at 8 pm. There will be live music every night, with Duo 64 & Nuno Balbino on the 1st, Nuno Balbino and Valter Cabrita on the 3rd, and Nuno Balbino on the 4th, along with the winners of the Mask Competition, which takes place at 4pm.
Paderne Carnival, one of the oldest celebrations in the region, is back on March 1st and 4th. The organization moved to the Parish of Paderne, which will have nine floats parading on Saturday, the 1st, illuminating the streets of the village between 7 pm and 9:30 pm, followed by a Carnival Ball animated by the group “All in One”, starting at 10 pm. On Tuesday the 4th, the parade starts at 3pm, featuring themed floats representing the Discoveries, the crazy 70s/80s, the Enchanted Moiras, the Enchanted World of Disney and Algarve Traditions, involving six local groups and around 200 revelers.
In the parish of Ferreiras, this year's Carnaval Trapalhão will have a special touch of futurism, with figures created by artificial intelligence parading along Avenida 12 de Julho, on March 2nd and 4th, between 2pm and 5pm. The event, organized by the Parish of Ferreiras, promises a spectacle full of imagination and innovation, where it will be possible to see robots, Martians, walking chips and hybrid creatures parading through the streets.
