The programme brought together, at the EB 2,3 D. Dinis School, in Quarteira, technicians and specialists for a day of sharing knowledge and good practices in the area of sustainability.
Giving special emphasis to the importance of forests and natural ecosystems, the Days included the presentation of the project "Miniforests in the Schools of the Municipality of Loulé", an innovative initiative based on the Miyawaki method. This method promotes the creation of dense, resilient and biodiverse urban forests, contributing to the mitigation of the effects of climate change and aims to raise awareness in the school community of the importance of afforestation.
In addition, other essential topics were addressed, such as municipal projects in Protected Areas, health, namely vector surveillance in the Algarve, and the monitoring of water losses in the municipality of Loulé. The event also highlighted the role of the Local Volunteer Bank, which has encouraged the active participation of the community in environmental and social actions.
Along with the presentations and debates, the afternoon was marked by a practical action of planting a mini-forest at the EB 2,3 D. Dinis School, reinforcing the Municipality's commitment to reforestation and the involvement of its technicians together with teachers and students in the construction of this green infrastructure.
For the Mayor of Loulé, Vítor Aleixo, this edition of the Conference represents a fundamental step in the consolidation of an intelligent organisational culture focused on sustainability:
"At a time when cities are facing increasing challenges due to climate change, it is essential to invest in projects that promote environmental regeneration and community involvement. The Municipality of Loulé remains committed to developing innovative strategies that strengthen the resilience of our territory and the quality of life of our citizens".
