This is the third renewal of the diploma, but this time it was the PS who authored the bill, after the PSD announced on Tuesday that it would not hand it over again, considering that "it is more coherent" at this stage of the pandemic, that this is a legislative option of the Government.
Faced with the possibility that this law will not be renewed as of this Sunday, the socialist caucus decided to move forward with a legislative initiative to extend the transitory imposition on the use of masks in the street and in public spaces.
The text extends, in the same terms, the validity of the law in force from October 28th for another 90 days, which extends its effect until mid-September, if it enters into force on June 14th.
"Despite the evolution of the indicators after the end of the state of emergency, as well as the positive evolution of the population's vaccination, the prudence in the management of the COVID-19 pandemic and the phases of deconfinement that have occurred make it unadvisable at this stage to relax some measures adopted with a view to preventing and mitigating the transmission of the SARSCov-2 virus and COVID-19 disease, particularly the most basic ones, such as the mandatory use of masks in public spaces”, states the text in the explanatory memorandum.
Therefore, the PS proposes “one more renewal of the transitory imposition of the mandatory use of masks for access, circulation or permanence in public spaces and streets in cases where the physical distance recommended by health authorities proves impractical”.
Once the validity of the diploma is extended, without changes, the possibility of applying fines between 100 and 500 euros to those who do not comply is maintained.
I do not see any reference in this article to the issue of actual evidence that masks work in reducing infections. Doesn’t the example of Sweden, Florida and others indicate that masks don’t work? What happened to following the science? So why is it “prudent” in Portugal to keep wearing masks outdoors when the evidence says they don’t work? Are there undisclosed motivations at play here?

Really, how predictable. In October the lock downs and other BS will start again, oh, and they will blame the unvaccinated. In 2023 they will start with the climate lockdowns; for your health of course.

Do not understand all the restrictions required by the Portuguese authorities when entering the country. Even though we are fully vaccinated and come from a country with less infection (Denmark), we must have a throat PCR test and fill out formulas etc. on the Internet . It is incredibly confusing, and as if the EU authorities themselves do not believe in vaccination. Face mask in open space has no effect, and makes no sense. We cancel our trip in July - way too many restrictions and way too confusing.

Once again, a reminder that people only wear masks outside when they can't maintain a 2 meter
distance!

Bunch of clueless politicians that love the power grab not based on any real science….

Please give me a break. The masks ain't going to do anything good unless you are really sick, then there may be some merit. Even Covid overlord Dr. Fauchi himself has said as much (between his now famous flip-flops. Why do they keep this guy?). And no, it is not a conspiracy either, just look it up -

The comments section tells me all I need to know about why the mask requirement needs to be extended. Masks work. The vaccine protects from critical and deadly illness and reduces cases. People who are vaccinated can still get a mild case of Covid and pass it to others. Uncrowded outdoor spaces are safer from passing the virus. Conspiracies don't resolve a pandemic.
