Portugal is not one of the countries to be included in the newly updated UK green list however Madeira has made the cut.
The UK government has announced that Madeira will join Malta, the Balearic Islands, Carribbean islands and several UK overseas territories on the green list of countries for travel from 30 June.
Transport secretary Grant Shapps said: “We’re moving forward with efforts to safely reopen international travel this summer, and thanks to the success of our vaccination programme, we’re now able to consider removing the quarantine period for fully vaccinated UK arrivals from amber countries - showing a real sign of progress.
“It’s right that we continue with this cautious approach, to protect public health and the vaccine rollout as our top priority, while ensuring that our route out of the international travel restrictions is sustainable.”
Time to ask the real question :
What is the hidden agenda of those making these decisions ?
By Dave from Madeira on 24 Jun 2021, 19:18
So the removing the quarantine period for fully vaccinated UK arrivals from amber countries will coincide with the UK parliament break when MPs will want to go abroad......

This is a truly unbelievable decision. I came out on 31May when Portugal was on the green list. A few days after arriving it changed to amber. I can see no reasoning behind this decision as the Algarve is the quietest I've ever known it to be at this time of year. Being retired I am going back in July as I have come to finish my dental treatment and obviously will have to isolate for the 10 days upon return unless Britain comes to their senses and realise this is not the way forward. They need to stop messing people about and come to a realistic decision and stick to it.

Rampant flip-flopping, run amok.

The real reason for making it difficult for UK citizens to visit the traditional summer hotspots is all to do with Brexit and the UK economy. If more people have to stay in the UK for their holidays, the more money will be spent in the UK. This will, in turn, help the UK economy no end and Boris and his fellow brexiteers can advocate that the UK economy is indeed stronger since they left the EU!

Look up the “spike protein”. It’s a killer component of the vaccine. See Dark Horse Podcast

They might as well make a new James Bond movie inspired out of it

Have all those insulting the British government for keeping Portugal on amber not noticed that the Portuguese government itself is keeping the country under red alert? Or are you all just looking after number one?

Guaranteed the quarantine rules will change 19th July to coincide with the UK kids breaking up for summer holidays.

Look up Covid 19, it’s a killer. There maybe a few side effects from the vaccine but without it this world would have bigger problems.

The UK gov and SAGE have now descended into the realms of farce - and they are now making a new movie, "Carry on Covid" following the health secretary's(Tony Hancock?) affair with his aide.
Their hypocrisy beggars believe.
The Covid infection rates in the UK are currently higher than Portugal, Spain, France, Greece, etc. - yet all we get from this ridiculous government are their bragging claims on how great the vaccine roll-out has been.
THEN USE IT! HOW ABOUT, NO QUARANTINE IF YOU'VE HAD THE DOUBLE-JAB?!!!!

They keep on chopping and changing, with hardly ANY notice !
l, like Lesley Fairey was in the Algarve. l came back to the uk on 8th May. lt was at that time on the Amber list so l had to fork out 300 euros plus, because the gov forced people to choose between various healthcare providers and spend 10 days isolating!!. Not that long before l left and also not that long after l left Portugal was again on the green list !! l only managed to miss it because of hardly any notice of change and my pre dept test was already arranged as was list of a private company, CityDoc !
The behaviour of this gov is disgraceful, track and trace "system" is a shambles as well as hardly any PPE at the beginning and patients being discharged from hospitals to care homes WITHOUT being tested for covid first. And now this constant change from greens to amber and back again, like a game of musical chairs !! my great niece who`s 11 could have done a better job than this shambloic group of ex public schoolboys !!

Daco, how about looking up some facts instead? The vaccine is saving hundreds of thousands of lives, and like all vaccines is one of the safest drugs.
By Felix from UK on 25 Jun 2021, 16:50
The vaccines are novel and there is zero long term safety data.
Spike proteins have been found in ovaries, blood plasma and other organs.
Nobody knows the long term effects of this.
Vaccinated people are not immune from catching or spreading covid.
That is why there is increasing talk of booster shots (possibly for years.)
The Algarve has now once again got community spread. The Delta variant has taken hold here and the Delta plus is also here.
I don't give a damn about hotels or restaurants or bars.
I only care about the health of the resident population here.
By James from Algarve on 25 Jun 2021, 17:07
Scrap the travel restrictions, lockdowns and vaccination programs for a month and I bet the lurgy numbers don't sky rocket.its a total load of rubbish and it's destroying people's lives.
I am 67 and have no intention of being used as a guinea pig for a trial vaccine so won't be getting vaccinated.suppose some of us have got to stay healthy so that we can look after those sat in wheelchairs and drooling after being vaccinated.
By Peter from Lisbon on 25 Jun 2021, 18:17
A cleaver decission.
But remeber. EU/Portugal have the rules about who is allowed to travel to EU.
Britts can only decide what to do when they return to UK.
Not decide about entry other countries.
=>Portugal should only accept needed travels from UK.
No pleasure/turist travelling
And UK can do what they want with their green list.
For example as toilet paaper
By Gustav from Algarve on 25 Jun 2021, 20:50
Typical British finger pointing hypocrisie: they create problems all over the world (new cases in Portugal are mostly brits) and then point fingers and give ratings haha -who cares about the uk now anyway?
By Rico from Lisbon on 26 Jun 2021, 08:33
It`s unfortunate that there has been a rise in the number of people suggesting vaccines are some kind of evil. So much gets said in an emotive fashion yet so little reasoning goes into those statements. The effectiveness of the vaccine is demonstratively overwhelming as illustrated by the latest figures coming from the US where near half of the population is fully vaccinated: -
" Nearly all covid-19 deaths in the U.S. now are people who weren't vaccinated, a demonstration of how effective the shots have been and an indication that deaths per day -- now down to fewer than 300 -- could be practically zero if everyone eligible got the vaccine.
An Associated Press analysis of available government data from May shows that "breakthrough" infections in fully vaccinated people accounted for fewer than 1,200 of more than 853,000 hospitalizations. That's about 0.1%. "
In context of safety, also understand the spike protein is simply a very small part of the virus. It can`t give you covid anymore than than a foot can win a 100m sprint without the rest of the person attached. The only chance we have of securing a safe outcome for all is full vaccination. This works. If current attitudes were around 50 years we would not only be battling covid but also small pox, polio, yellow fever and many other devastating human diseases. It worked in the past because a community, not individualist, approach was taken. Hesitancy towards vaccination is understandable but those with concerns need use some rational informed judgement, not latch onto and spread complete misinformation. Unfortunately this is the other pandemic we are now facing and it is very dangerous indeed.
By Rod from Lisbon on 26 Jun 2021, 09:15
I agree with Andrew Cartwright's opinion, the UK government simply don't want Brits spending £ sterling abroad - Brexit a balls up , lockdown with mass vaccine a travesty , Boris and his goons are playing with our lives as if we can't make our own choices and decisions. There's no way I will ever get the mRNA jabs - but I would use Ivermectin ( if my GP was allowed to prescribe it, but she can't ) because Merck are making a similar drug which will be patented - watch the dosh roll in on this one.
