This is the second space in Beja, this week, to be closed by
the municipality due to cases of bird flu since, on Monday, the City Park was
closed.
In the statement sent today, the municipality explained that
the temporary closure of the Public Garden has “immediate effect” and will be
in force “for a period of not less than eight days”.
The measure adopted respects the hygiene and biosecurity
guidelines determined by the Directorate-General for Food and Veterinary
(DGAV), said the chamber.
Speaking to the Lusa agency, the mayor, Paulo Arsénio,
explained that, this Monday, “a duck was found dead” from the existing colony
in the public garden, whose corpse was collected by the team from the National
Institute for Agrarian and Veterinary Research (Instituto Nacional de Investigación
Agraria e Veterinária INIAV).
“They analyzed it and it is positive and, therefore, we
closed the garden, we are going to capture the birds that we manage to capture,
disinfect everything to try to eliminate the focus of the virus and then reopen
the garden”, added the mayor.
